When I’m hankering for something sweet, I turn to my tried and true recipe for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.
After years of eating store-bought cookies, I have officially decided “no more!” In fact, I’m not even tempted to go down the cookie aisle in the grocery store anymore. Really, I’m not!
Kids cook too guys!!! I am so honored to share my space with a dear friend and colleague, Sonya Angelone MS, RDN, CLT. She has some amazing insight about how she has gotten her kids to spend time with her in the kitchen. And, if you ask her, it’s been seriously valuable time too! Thanks so much Sonya for your great post!
Can it be? Is summer really almost over? Perhaps a Blueberry Crumble Bar could save my end-of-summer-sadness!
If you’re like me, this happens every single year. I get to the end of August and think “what the heck? How can it almost be September?” Well, of course time inevitably keeps propelling us forward, but for some reason, my mind just doesn’t accept that sometimes. I mean, I swear it was just a few weeks ago when I finally felt safe stuffing my long, dark heavy winter coat in the closet. I literally stuffed it in there too – jammed it in – as I had no interest in even seeing a glimpse of it for the next several months.
Cauliflower is having a moment right now.
Some may argue it’s moment is over, but not me. Never one to shy away from a culinary or food trend, I wanted to give the roasted cauliflower “steak” a try. Well, so here’s the thing about me, I am NOT patient. Not one little bit. So all of that fuss of carefully and perfectly slicing that cauliflower and then to have millions (exaggeration) of pieces of cauliflower fall off – well, it just frustrated the crust out of me!
I am about to make you really uncomfortable. That’s right. I’m going to force you to read my horrendous poetry. Perhaps not my best judgement to write an Ode to Crunchy Herb Croutons, but I did it anyway. Laugh, cry, weep, guffaw, let your emotions be what they may. And now, without further ado…
No creamy dressings for me! Yes, you saw that correctly, I said “no creamy dressings for me!” Well, let me backtrack a little…
Back in the good old 1990’s and early 2000’s fat was BAD. Like really BAD. Like if you even thought about adding avocado to something, people would scorn you. So sad, right? Indeed, it was a sad time, because during that time, I decided to give up some pretty yummy foods.
Who Me? Cook?
I don’t remember spending a whole lot of time in the kitchen as a kid. Sure, I had my hand at whipping up a muffin or cake mix now and again, but that was the extent of it. Not being “invited” into the kitchen to cook isn’t something for which I blame my parents. I’m pretty sure they felt like many parents – tired and just doing their best to get food on the table. My dad worked all day and most of the cooking was left to my mom, who, I’m pretty sure, didn’t love cooking. Even though she didn’t necessarily enjoy it, she was a great cook and we had some amazing meals at our house. The food was so good and I never knew that no one else ate the way we did.
Did I just blow your mind? Am I really posting a recipe for bonbons here? Yes, but pay attention – did you happen to notice the quotations around the word “bonbons?” See? You knew there was a catch, right? But have no fear, these Chocolate Cherry Almond Bonbons do NOT disappoint, even with my trickery.
